Dry Canister Storage System Nondestructive Evaluation Inspection Workshop

Charlotte, NC

You are cordially invited to a workshop on inspections of welded stainless steel used fuel dry storage canisters. The Dry Cask Storage System (DCSS) Nondestructive Examination (NDE) Workshop will take place at EPRI’s Charlotte, North Carolina facility starting at 1pm on Monday, September 29th and conclude at 12pm on Wednesday, October 1st. EPRI is inviting regulators, industry (utilities, dry storage system vendors, NDE specialists), universities, and members of the US Department of Energy’s Used Fuel Disposition Campaign (UFDC).

Attached to this invitation is the draft agenda. The workshop will begin on Monday afternoon with a discussion of candidate criteria for inspections of some of the canisters that may need to be performed in the future, and the technical and regulatory bases for the candidate criteria. On Tuesday, there will be multiple presentations and discussion on options for NDE inspections combined with delivery systems that can meet the candidate criteria. The Wednesday morning session will focus on identifying general development goals for NDE and delivery systems as well as fostering collaborations between universities, utilities, EPRI, DOE, NRC, cask vendors, inspection vendors, and robotics companies to address the challenges associated with DCSS inspection.

EPRI looks forward to your participation and a fruitful meeting.

John Kessler and Jeremy Renshaw, EPRI workshop organizers.
