Commercial Spent Nuclear Fuel Waste Package Misload Analysis

The purpose of this calculation is to estimate the probability of misloading a commercial spent nuclear fuel waste package with a fuel assembly(s) that has a reactivity (i.e., enrichment and/or burnup) outside the waste package design. The waste package designs are based on the expected commercial spent nuclear fuel assemblies and previous analyses (Macheret, P. 2001, Section 4.1 and Table 1). For this calculation, a misloaded waste package is defined as a waste package that has a fuel assembly(s) loaded into it with an enrichment and/or burnup outside the waste package design.

CRC Reactivity Calculations for Quad Cities Unit 2

In the development of a methodology to account for exposure effects on the reactivity of spent Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) fuel in the proposed Monitored Geologic Repository (MGR) at Yucca Mountain, the accuracy of the methods used to predict the inventories of fissile and fissionable nuclides as well as neutron poisons present in the spent fuel must be established. One aspect ofthis confirmatory effort is accomplished by performing benchmark problems for known in-reactor critical configurations - Commercial Reactor Criticals (CRCs).

CRC Reactivity Calculations for Three Mile Island Unit 1

The purpose of this calculation is to document the Three Mile Island Unit 1 pressurized water reactor {PWR) reactivity calculations performed as part o f the commercial reactor critical (CRC) evaluation program. CRC evaluation reactivity calculations are performed at a number of statepoints, representing reactor start-up critical conditions at either beginning of life (BOL), beginning of cycle (BOC), or mid- cycle when the reactor resumed operation after a shutdown.

Computational Benchmark for Estimation of Reactivity Margin from Fission Products and Minor Actinides in PWR Burnup Credit

This report proposes and documents a computational benchmark problem for the estimation of the additional reactivity margin available in spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from fission products and minor actinides in a burnupcredit storage/transport environment, relative to SNF compositions containing only the major actinides. The benchmark problemlconfiguration is a generic burnup credit cask designed to hold 32 pressurized water reactor (PWR) assemblies.

CRC Reactivity Calculations for Crystal River Unit 3

The purpose of this calculation is to document the Crystal River Unit 3 pressurized waste reactor (PWR) reactivity calculations performed as part of the commercial reactor critical (CRC) evaluation program. CRC evaluation reactivity calculations are performed at a number of statepoints, representing reactor start-up critical conditions at either beginning of life (BOL), beginning of cycle (BOC), or mid-cycle when the reactor resumed operation after a shutdown.

Limerick Unit 1 Radiochemical Assay Comparisons to SAS2H Calculations

The objective of the Limerick Unit 1 Radiochemical Assay Comparisons to SAS2H Calculations is to determine the accuracy of the SAS2H control module of the baselined modular code system SCALE, Version 4.4A (STN: 10129-4.4A-00), in predicting the isotopic concentrations of spent fuel, and to quantify the overall effect that the differences between the calculated and measured isotopic concentrations have on the system reactivity. The scope of this calculation covers eight different spent fuel samples from a fuel assembly that was irradiated in the Limerick Unit 1 boiling water reactor (BWR).

Commercial Reactor Reactivity Analysis for Grand Gulf, Unit 1

The objective of this calculation is to document the Grand Gulf Unit 1 (GGl) reactivity calculations for sixteen critical statepoints in· cycles 4 through 8. The GG1 reactor is a boiling water reactor (BWR) owned and operated by Entergy Operations Inc. The Commercial Reactor Criticality (CRC) evaluations support the development and validation of the neutronic models used for criticality analyses involving commercial spent nuclear fuel to be placed in a geologic repository. This calculation is performed as part of the evaluation in the CRC program.

Frequency of SNF Misload for Uncanistered Fuel Waste Package

The purpose ofthis engineering calculation is to estimate the frequency of misloading spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies that would result in exceeding the criticality design basis of a waste package (WP). This type of misload - a reactivity misload - results from the incorrect placement of one or more fuel assemblies into a waste package such that the criticality controls do not match the required controls for the fuel assemblies.

Evaluation of Internal Criticality of the Plutonium Disposition MOX SNF Waste Form

The purpose of this calculation is to perform a parametric study to determine the effects of fission product leaching, assembly collapse, and iron oxide loss (Me203) on the reactivity of a waste package (WP) containing mixed oxide (MOX) spent nuclear fuel (SNF). Previous calculations (CRWMS M&O 1998a) have shown that the criticality control features of the WP are adequate to prevent criticality of a flooded WP for all the enrichment/ burnup pairs expected for the MOX SNF.
