This Report gives an outline of Ireland’s national policy, State institutional framework and general legislation governing all aspects of the implementation of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management in Ireland. It also sets out measures adopted to implement the relevant obligations of the Convention noting that Ireland does not have any spent nuclear fuel to deal with.

Canadian National Report for the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management -- Second Report

This is Canada's Second National Report and it demonstrates how Canada continues to meet its obligations under the terms of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management. The main aspect addressed in this report is the progress on initiatives for the long-term management of spent fuel and radioactive waste in Canada. This report also includes information on Canada's systematic monitoring programs and their implementation and addresses specific topics raised at the First Review Meeting.

Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, National Report - Morocco

Radioactive waste management constitutes the final step in the using of radioactive material as fuel for reactor research or as radioisotopes in research, medicine or industry. In compliance with the principal of protecting the public, the environment and to not impose undue burdens on future generation Morocco signed the joint convention in September 1997 and ratified it in May 1999 Morocco has a research nuclear centre (CENM) where we have our facilities to treat radioactive waste generated at national level.

The responsibility for the governance of Australia is shared by the Australian government and the governments of the six states and two self governing territories. Responsibility for radiation health and safety in each State and Territory rests with the respective State/Territory government, unless the activity is carried out by an Australian government agency or a contractor to a Australian government agency; in those cases the activity is regulated by the Australian government.

. On 25 March 1999 the Government of the Czech Republic approved the Joint Convention which came into effect in the Czech Republic on 18 June 2001. In agreement with the obligations resulting from its accession to the Joint Convention the Czech Republic has already drawn the second National Report for the purposes of Review Meetings of the Contracting Parties, which describes the system of spent fuel and radioactive waste management in the scope required by selected articles of the Joint Convention.

WP 2 Appendix 9 Principles and Good Practices for Local Actors to Influence National Decision-Making Processes

The outcomes of policy-making in radioactive waste management (RWM) should be driven by the will of the people through democratic processes. Achieving this inclusiveness requires good practices to increase local influence on what is essentially a national policy process. However inclusiveness poses significant practical problems; can society afford lengthy and costly consultation processes, often perceived as inefficient and ineffective?

Public Health and Environmental Radiation Protection Standards for Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Proposed Rule

We, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), are proposing to revise certain of our public health and safety standards for radioactive material stored or disposed of in the potential repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Section 801(a) of the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EnPA, Pub. L. 102Ð 486) directed us to develop these standards. These standards (the 2001 standards) were originally promulgated on June 13, 2001 (66 FR 32074).

WP 3 Quality of decision-making process Proposed Framework for Decision-making Processes

The long-term governance of radioactive waste is complex socio-technical issue. The disposition of radioactive waste is decided on ethical grounds, having to take into account a variety of other dimensions (society, economy, ecology, politics, time, space, and technology). Thereto, a study of variants is required. Decision theory, in principle, takes diverse options as a starting point begin as the basis of a decision.

WP 2 Appendix 2 The influence of the local community of Dunkirk on the process of elaboration of the 30th July 2003 Law for the prevention of natural and technological risks

This case study was carried out in the framework of the second work package (influence of local actors on national decision-making processes) of the European research project COWAM 2. The study aims at identifying and analysing the strategies and influence mechanisms implemented by the local actors of Dunkirk in order to influence the process of elaboration of the 30th July Law on the prevention of natural and technological risks. This case study was carried out using, on the one hand, a desk study and, on the other hand, a participative methodology involving a working group.
