10 CFR Part 960 - General Guidelines for the Recommendation of Sites for Nuclear Waste Repositories

The Department of Energy, Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management, today proposes to amend its General Guidelines for the Recommendation of Sites for Nuclear Waste Repositories. The DOE is proposing these amendments to clarify and focus the Guidelines to be used in evaluating the suitability of the Yucca Mountain site in Nevada for development as a repository. This proposal would provide that a total system assessment of the performance of a proposed site-specific repository design within the geologic setting of Yucca Mountain would be compared to the applicable regulatory standards to determine whether this site is suitable for development as a repository.
