Presentation made at International Conference on The Management of Spent Nuclear Fuel from Nuclear Power Reactors, An Integrated approach to the Back-End of the Fuel Cycle (IAEA-CN-226). The purpose of the conference was to highlight the importance of an integrated long-term approach to the management of spent fuel from nuclear power reactors.
This presentation was given at the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (NWTRB) meeting June 24, 2015 in Golden, Colorado. It covered the standardized transportation, aging, and disposal (STAD) canister design work being performed by DOE and responded to a number of NWTRB questions.
These slides were presented by Waste Control Specialists LLC (WCS) to the NRC at the June 16, 2015 pre-application public meeting at the NRC offices in Rockville, Maryland.

To streamline analysis capabilities for the waste management system, a comprehensive, integrated data and analysis tool has been assembled—UNF-Storage, Transportation & Disposal Analysis Resource and Data System (UNF-ST&DARDS).

In response to Section 141 of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, the Department of Energy hereby submits a proposal for the construction of a facility for monitored retrievable storage (MRS). The approval of this proposal by the Congress would specifically--
• Approve the construction of an MRS facility at a site on the Clinch River in the Roane County portion of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
• Limit the storage capacity at the MRS site to 15,000 metric tons of uranium.
Our country faces a mounting challenge when it comes to nuclear energy: the safe, long-term disposal of spent fuel from commercial reactors and leftover waste from defense activity. It's a challenge with a decades-long history.
