Abstract

This analysis is prepared by the Mined Geologic Disposal System (MGDS) Waste Package Development Department (WPDD) to determine the viability of the UCF waste package concept with respect to criticality regulatory requirements in compliance with the goals of the Waste Package Implementation Plan5ยท1 for conceptual design. These design calculations are performed in sufficient detail to provide a comprehensive comparison base with other design alternatives. The objectives of this evaluation are 1) to show the reactivity worth of bumup credit, 2) to show to what extent the concept meets the regulatory requirements or indicate additional measures that are required for the intact waste package, 3) to demonstrate time effects on criticality potential, 4) to demonstrate the effects of varied boron concentration in the control panels on criticality potential, and 5) to provide input for separate shielding calculations.
